How it works

Your first weeks on Kinnect, in eight steps: what you do, what you see, and what Kinnect keeps. The first three are in the app today. The rest open later, and each one says so.

Start with yourself

The first six steps are about you. Nobody is introduced to you until you're ready.

Step 1: Sign in with a code

Download the app and type your email address. We send you a six-digit code to type in. There's no password to remember, and none to lose.

Kinnect keepsYour email address, to sign you in.

The sign-in screen in the app on an iPhone: Enter your code, sent to your email address, six boxes for the code, Verify, and Send a new code.
  1. The code comes to your email. Type it in, and you're in.
  2. Didn't arrive? Ask for another.

Step 2: Agree, with nothing ticked for you

Before anything else, you agree to what Kinnect needs, in two boxes marked Required. The first says you're 18 or over and agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. The second reads “Use my answers to introduce me”. Each box starts empty, and you tick it yourself.

Kinnect keepsA copy of what you agreed to, with the date. You'll find it in Account and privacy.

Step 3: Choose a nickname

Pick the name other members will see. Then your birthday, your gender, your city and where you are in life, one question at a time, and three prompts in your own words.

Kinnect keepsYour nickname and these answers. Other members see your nickname, never your full name.

The nickname screen in the app: What should people call you? This is the name other members see. A nickname field, and the rule: no surname, numbers or social handles.
  1. This is the name people meet first.
  2. No surname, numbers or social handles.

Step 4: Say what matters to you

Not in the app yet.

Seven deal-breakers, like faith, children and smoking. You'll mark each one hard or soft, and choose the one that matters most. Then the ages you'd like to meet, and twelve short statements about what you value.

Kinnect keepsYour answers, to choose who we introduce you to.

A deal-breaker, as designed for the app, 4 of 7: Smoking. Doesn't smoke is chosen and marked Hard. A line says two hard lines so far, and that the more you have, the fewer people can be introduced.
  1. You'll see how each hard line narrows who we can introduce.
  2. Hard means we won't introduce you to anyone outside it.

Step 5: See your strengths

Not in the app yet.

You'll answer a few honest questions, one statement at a time. What comes back is what stood out about you, in plain words.

Kinnect keepsYour answers and your report. Kiki will read the report to coach you, if you say yes to coaching.

The strengths report, as designed for the app: Early Bird, here's what stood out. Three short paragraphs about strengths, then Kiki's K beside: A starting point, not a verdict.
  1. Strengths, written as sentences.
  2. A starting point, not a verdict.

Step 6: Check in each day

Not in the app yet.

Each day the app will ask one question: how's your weather looking today? Answer with a tap, or say not today.

Kiki is in the app today. She's an AI guide, not a person. She coaches you only after you say yes, and she tells you which company's AI she runs on. Until then she stays a guide, and nothing you write goes to the AI.

Kinnect keepsYour check-ins. A check-in never changes who you're introduced to.

The daily check-in, as designed for the app, after dark: Good evening, Early Bird. How's your weather looking today? Five choices from Stormy to Clear, Save, and Not today.
  1. Stormy, rainy, overcast, clearing or clear.
  2. Not today is always an answer.

Meet people when you're ready

Introductions aren't open yet. When they are, readiness opens them: free members can be introduced, and starting a conversation needs one of you on Member Plus.

Step 7: Your introductions, once a week

Not in the app yet.

Once you're ready, introductions will arrive once a week, up to three at a time. Each will come with the reasons, written from what you both said. You'll see a nickname, an age and a city. Not a face.

Kinnect keepsYour photo hidden. They see the same of you: your nickname, age, city and stage of life.

The first introductions, as designed for the app, on an Android phone: Your first three introductions are here. Morning Star, 32, Lagos, Building, the photo hidden until you both reveal, and a reason: you both put family first, and said so plainly.
  1. Photos stay hidden until you both reveal.
  2. Why we introduced you, in words.

Step 8: Seven days, then you both decide

Not in the app yet.

You'll talk by nickname for seven days, and Kiki will check in along the way. On day seven you each decide, and it goes further only if you both say yes.

Kinnect keepsYour conversation. You'll be able to report or block from any screen, and a person will review every report.

The Talking Stage, as designed for the app: Morning Star, 32, day 3 of 7. A short conversation, then Kiki asks: Day 3 with Morning Star, feeling good about this conversation? Yes, easy; Not sure; Something's off.
  1. The stage has an end: day 3 of 7.
  2. Kiki will check in, and you can tell her something's off.

The app is on its way

To the App Store and Google Play. We'll say so here on the day it's out.
